"Experience the Difference"

Home

The West Hants Education Centre was established and began accepting students in September of 2006. It offers a flexible learning environment that follows an alternative approach to learning. With small class sizes, many hands-on opportunities and experiential activities, it offers hope to students who have not experienced success in a regular classroom environment.

WHEC accepts students between the ages of 15 and 17 (eligible for grade 10 or higher) from the West Hants area. We are doing intake for the 2018-19  school year; applications are available through Student Services at Avon View High School or through our office at 94 Wentworth Road.  If you would like more information, please review our BROCHURE or PROGRAM INFORMATION.  If you think this is the school for you, or someone you know, the application process is explained under the Application tab.

STUDENT REFLECTIONS:

"I am thankful to have the opportunity to go to school here. It is a lot better for me because I am able to focus on the big picture of graduating. I’ve met a lot of awesome people this year and have had time to get myself on track and get to know myself a lot better. Very thankful!"

"WHEC has given me the inner peace and confidence to deal with obstacles as opposed to merely removing them. "

"My favorite memory of WHEC would be of being in WHEC itself. All of the people, trips, opportunities. The feeling of wanting to come to school for once was a great new feeling. Starting out I was anxious of having to go places and do activities with people who I would be intimidated by a couple months ago."
